Monique Limón was born and raised in Santa Barbara and has a long track record for fighting and advocating for her community. She served as a Santa Barbara Unified School District Board Member and a California State Assemblymember and is currently serving as the Senator for the 19th Senate District,

Monique has worked continuously to serve her community as an educator, leader, and an advocate on issues including women’s rights, protecting the environment, and ensuring our students receive a quality education. During her time in the Assembly, Monique chaired the Banking and Finance Committee and was the Vice-Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus.

For Monique, education has always been a priority. Monique served two terms on the Santa Barbara Unified School Board, was the Assistant Director for the McNair Scholars Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has worked with local students at Santa Barbara City College and UCSB as an advisor and mentor to help them achieve their professional and academic goals through higher education.

She is a graduate of the Santa Barbara Unified School District, attended UC Berkeley for her undergraduate degree, and received a Master of Education from Columbia University. She was elected to the Senate in November 2020, representing Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.
